Virtual activities available to benefit community members

By Jessie Wagoner

A number of community groups and organizations are hosting virtual activities to benefit community members. From photo contests to online classes, there is a little something for everyone to be found online. Here is a round up of current virtual activities to keep you connected with others in McPherson county.

Basement Genealogy with McPherson Public Library

With most people spending more time at home, there’s never been a better time than the present to research your family history. In Basement Genealogy, a new online series, Library Director Steve Read will offer advice and tips on a variety of topics, coming to viewers live from his basement.

The programs are designed for beginners and those who are relatively new to researching their family history, though genealogists of all experience levels will likely find something that interests them. The first program is “Where Are We?” which will cover using maps to aid in your research. It will take place on Thursday, April 16, at 10 a.m.

This class is one of the first interactive virtual programs presented by the library, with more to come. Please join us, and we will all see what happens! The program is free of charge, and all of the resources which are discussed are free and easily accessible from home.

The program will be held on Zoom. If you would like to attend, please e-mail Shannon Brake at shannon@macpl.org, and she will send you information which will enable you to access it.
