Rochelle Lou Koehn

Beloved wife and mother, Rochelle Lou Koehn was born on Sept. 27, 1976 to Melvin and Julitta Koehn in Moundridge, Kan. She peacefully passed away on Oct. 3, 2018 at Select Specialty Hospital at St. Joseph’s in Phoenix, Arizona.

Shelly’s childhood and youth were spent in the Moundridge community. Many happy hours were enjoyed outdoors on the family farm, playing school in the old chicken house, helping with the farming and enjoying neighborhood friends. She received her education at the Sunflower and Wheatland schools. At the age of 12, she gave her heart to God and was baptized on Jan. 22, 1989 by Min. Doyle Johnson.

After graduating from school, Koehn aided and taught lower grades at Wheatland Country School for two years. She also worked at Mercy Hospital for a short time.

On Oct. 25, 1998, Koehn was joined in marriage to Stephan Koehn, and they enjoyed nearly 20 years together. Two sons and two daughters came to bless their home. Shelly’s life and love was her home and family. Her creativity kept life interesting for them with her many projects and crafts. She made birthdays special with shaped cakes and numerous small gifts to open. She enjoyed the different seasons, especially fall, making them special with her little touches. She was a hard worker and she delighted in watching her family devour a warm pan of cinnamon rolls after a hard day of working outdoors. Shelly didn’t ask for much in life and was inspired with simple joys. Special family times were trips to Duluth, outdoor picnics, and fall tours around the countryside. She was also a lover of poetry and nature.

Shelly loved the Lord and often turned to Him for comfort and strength. Devotional time and Bible reading were special to her and she was free to admit her shortcomings and failings.

She instilled many virtues and values in her children by teaching and example.

When Shelly was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of 2016, her spirit and demeanor while in the different hospitals had an impact on the nurses. Her light shone brightly in spite of her body being weak. She loved life and her will to live was amazing to all she came in contact with. She fought bravely, but God wanted her to come home to be with Him.
