On Tuesday, May 22nd, the Moundridge Police Department received a report of a text message sent to a student of Moundridge High School advising of an impending school shooting at the high school that day. Moundridge Police immediately began an investigation into the incident. The investigation expanded with assistance provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the McPherson County
Sheriffs Office. As a result of the investigation, law enforcement determined the threat to be a hoax. The McPherson County Attorney’s Office has filed a juvenile complaint charging the person alleged to have sent the text message. Based on the investigation, we do not believe an actual threat of violence ever existed. Law enforcement and the County Attorney’s Office take any threat of violence towards our schools seriously. Our common goal is to insure that teachers, staff, and students in all McPherson County schools have a safe environment in which to be productive teachers and learners.
The FBI has also released a public education piece encouraging people to think before posting about a potential threat. Click here for the article.
