McPherson FD Battles Three Alarm Fire

The City of McPherson Fire Department received a call for service for a structure fire in the 800 block of West Kansas at Affordable Storage. This call was dispatched shortly after 10 a.m. on July 12, 2018. The first arriving Engine Company reported heavy smoke and fire showing upon arrival. One unit was completely involved in fire and had spread to multiple other units. Crews forced entry into all units effected and initiated suppression efforts to contain the fire, halting the spread to other areas of the structure. Even though the fire was contained, heavy smoke damage occurred throughout the entire structure.

Due to the extent of fire and weather conditions, the fire reached a 3 alarm response. Additional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were requested for intense rehabilitation efforts of personnel. Multiple Fire personnel suffered from heat exhaustion. One personnel was transported to the hospital due to injuries suffered from combating the fire.

McPherson Fire Department Investigators, McPherson Police Department as well as the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office are conducting an ongoing investigation to the cause of the fire. An Arson K9 was requested from KSFM to support the investigation.

Damages to the structure and contents are estimated to be over $100,000.

“We would like to say thank you to the agencies that supported our fire suppression crews. Also Galva Fire Department for sending crews to cover our response district while this incident was being mitigated,” Asst. Fire Chief TJ Wyssman said.
