Hoping for a chance to meet with like-minded individuals, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback spoke to an invitation-only crowd at a lunch held at the McPherson Board of Public Utilities building Tuesday. Brownback focused on the shift of individuals off of welfare in his tenure, his struggle to reign in education spending and job growth through tax cuts put in place when he took office in 2012.

The embattled governor has faced recent criticism for the continuing budget shortfalls, his push to change supreme court justice selections, and sweeping of funds from the Kansas Department of Transportation. He also stopped at the International Pancake Day race in Liberal and a fundraiser for the Reno County Republican party in South Hutchinson.
