Earl Lester “Les” Horn, 87, of McPherson, Kan., passed away at 4:10 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019 peacefully, at McPherson Hospital.
Horn was born in Farmington, Mo. on June 12, 1931, a son of Neoma (Freeman) and Earl G. Horn.
Horn attended rural school near Farmington, Mo.
He was a member of New Gottland Lutheran Church McPherson, Kan. He was baptized at the Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, Farmington, Mo.
Horn honorably served in the U.S. Army as a Master Sgt.
Through the years Horn operated a Standard Gas Station, worked for a construction company, was a salesman, was a fire fighter for the City of McPherson was an insurance agent and retired as a Resident Underwriter for American Family Insurance.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2715, American Legion Post # 24 and BPOE Elk’s Lodge 502, all of McPherson. Horn enjoyed working around the home and helping others.
Horn was united in marriage to Vernice Blomberg on April 26, 1952 at Pocahontas, Ark. The young couple established its first home together in McPherson, Kan. on Barber Street. This couple was blessed with the birth of two children, a daughter Debra and a son Bradley.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 66 years, Vernice of McPherson; his son, Bradley Horn, of Easton, Penn.; his sisters, Ruth Deckard, of Lincoln, Neb., Barbara Hood, of High Ridge, Mo., and Shirley Martin, of Statesboro, Ga.; his five grandchildren, Jessica Lauer (Adam), Amanda Bragg (Mike), Ryan Unruh,(Tabatha) Josh Befort, and Tana Befort; his 10 great-grandchildren, Taylor Lauer, Brooke Lauer, Bailee Horn, A.J. Lauer, Kelsi Bragg, Taylen Wall, Zayda Unruh, Ryder Unruh, Ezmae Unruh and Rebel Unruh; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Horn was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Debra Beck; brothers, Ronald and Darrell Horn; and sisters Patty Snyder and Ruby Rothfelder.
Visitation was held on Sunday Feb. 24, 2019 at New Gottland Lutheran Church rural McPherson.
Funeral service was held at New Gottland Lutheran Church rural McPherson, Kan., at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019 with Reverend Harry Grinstad officiating.
The final resting place will be at the Crestwood Memorial Park Cemetery McPherson, Kan. with members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 and American Legion Post 24 both of McPherson providing Military Honors.
