McPHERSON–Donald Eugene Moyer, 87, of McPherson, Kan., passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at Bethesda Home in Goessel, Kan.. Moyer retired as a meter reader from McPherson Board of Public Utilities after working there 25 years.
Moyer was born on Sept. 22, 1931, in Solomon, Kan., the son of Fred S. and Esther P. (Forney) Moyer. He graduated from Galva High School in 1954. Moyer was united in marriage to Mary Louise Ballweg on Aug. 29, 1954, in McPherson, Kan. This union was blessed with two children, Sheila and Mark.
Moyer served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was discharged at the rank of Private First Class. He was a member of the American Legion Post #24 and V.F.W. Post #2715.
Survivors include: his loving wife of 64 years, Mary of McPherson, Kan; daughter, Sheila Ratzlaff (Joel) of Goessel, Kan; two brothers, Bob Moyer and Ken Moyer, both of New York; two grandchildren, Bryce Ratzlaff (Katie) of Halstead, Kan and Nanci Heath (Brian) of Goessel, Kan; four great-grandchildren, Derek, Kelli, Braxton, and Breckyn.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Mark E. Moyer; infant brother, Harold Moyer; brother, Gerald “Shorty” Moyer; and sister, Louise Smith.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Mayse officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at McPherson Cemetery.
