McPHERSON—The first Flockin’ Chalkin’ Art Contest hosted by The Pink Flamingo in McPherson was a flockin’ success.

Chad Mock, owner of The Pink Flamingo, brought the chalk art competition to McPherson to help spread a little joy downtown. Having creative chalk art for visitors to enjoy was an added bonus.

The competition, which was held Saturday, brought more than 30 entries. Entries were accepted from 3 years to adult and split into various categories. After several hours of creative expression, the contestants stepped aside, giving the judges room to view.

“It was so awesome to see families out drawing together and admiring others’ artwork,” Jenny Roberts, one of the judges, said.

Judging the artwork was a challenge, but Roberts said the ultimate winners in each category were as follows:

3 years to Pre-K – Presligh

2nd to 5th grade – Ryder

6th to 8th grade – Leslie

9th to 12th grade – Rylee

Adult – Chelsea

Mock was appreciative of all the contestants and judges who came out to decorate downtown.

“Wow, just wow is all I can say,” Mock said. “Thank you to everyone who came out and participated in our Flockin’ Chalkin’ Contest. I love, love, love all the art. Thank you to the three judges who took time to come out and judge so I didn’t have to. Please, if you like this one, let me know, because I would love to host one in the fall when the colleges are back in session.
