Canton-Galva coach arrested for DUI

Canton-Galva Football Coach Shelby Hoppes has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

According to information obtained from the McPherson County Sheriff’s Department, Hoppes was arrested and booked into the McPherson County Jail at 1:55 a.m. Oct. 31. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, first conviction. Hoppes was released at 3:25 a.m. the same day on a $750 bond. 

The McPherson News-Ledger has reached out to USD 419 administration and school board members as well as Hoppes regarding the incident. As of press time the only response has been from USD 418 Superintendent William Anderson. 

This is a personnel matter and there will be no information or comment,” Anderson said. 

Hoppes has led the Canton-Galva football team through a challenging season. The team is currently preparing for regional play Friday evening. At this time it is unknown if Hoppes will be coaching the team or if another staff member will be stepping in.
