California driver, victims named in two-car, three-person fatality accident near Windom

The driver of a 2017 Nissan rental car crossed the center line while being pursued for speeding by Little River, Kan. police and struck another driver head-on Wendnesday morning. The collision took place between 1st and 2nd Ave on Hwy 56 at approximately 7:55 a.m. The eastbound car driven by Miguel A. Casas of El Monte, Calif. collided with a 1988 Ford Thunderbird driven by Gerald Mindrup, 73, of Windom. Mindrup and the passenger of Casas’ vehicle Sara M. Morales of Rosemead, Calif. were pronounced dead at the scene. Casas was transported to Wesley Medical Center and later died from his injuries.

All occupants were wearing their safety restraints.

Casas was reported to be driving erratically and was being pursued by law enforcement from Rice County further west on Hwy. 56 shortly before the crash.
