McPherson College Spring Concert

 

The McPherson College Band will livestream its spring concert on Sunday, March 28, at 4 p.m. The concert features the college band’s wind ensembles, jazz ensemble, and the steel drum ensemble. Among other standards, the two wind ensembles will be playing new compositions written specifically for smaller instrumentation ensembles during COVID-19.

Along with some masterworks by Grainger and Vaughan Williams, the wind ensembles will feature the new compositions “Havana Nights” by Randall Standridge and “Gambol” by Jack Stamp. The jazz band will perform “Saxomania” by Rich Woolworth, featuring the saxophone section, and “Road Song” by Wes Montgomery. The steel drum ensemble will feature original compositions by our adjunct percussion instructor Brad Shores.

Spring Fling

 

The McPherson VFW located at 120 S. Taft will have their Spring Fling from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 28. The VFW Auxiliary will host an Easter egg hunt, arts and crafts, games, face painting and refreshments. The public is welcome to attend. 

 

McPherson Senior Center

 

The McPherson Senior Center is open and serving Friendship meals daily. Please call Connie at 241-0160 a day in advance to reserve a meal for $3.00. The senior center has also returned to regular programming. Come enjoy a cup of coffee, play a game of pool or visit with friends. 

 

Kindergarten and Angel Depot Preschool Roundup

 

St. Joseph Catholic School is holding kindergarten and preschool roundup at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, at St. Joseph Catholic School and Church, 520 E. Northview. 

 

COVID-19 Testing

 

The McPherson Fire Department is conducting free COVID-19 testing for residents. Symptoms are not required for testing and no doctor’s order is needed. To schedule an appointment for testing call, 245-2505. Testing takes approximately five minutes, and results are received in 24 to 48 hours. 

 

 

Farmer’s Market

 

The McPherson County Extension Office is looking for vendors for the 2021 Farmer’s Market. They are also looking for a market manager. If interested, more information can be obtained at https://www.mcpherson.k-state.edu/farmersmarket/ or by calling the extension office at 620-241-1523. 

 

Virtual Storytime

 

Every Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m., children can enjoy Virtual Storytime hosted by the McPherson Public Library. Registration is required and can be done by going online to www.macpl.libcal.com. Zoom links will be sent out one hour prior to the event. 

 

Bingo at the American Legion

 

Bingo is held at the McPherson American Legion every Sunday. The early bird session starts at 2:30 p.m., and regular games begin at 3:15 p.m.
