K-State Extension to Offer XYZ’s Educational program

K-State Research & Extension, McPherson County office is partnering with professionals
to provide basic educational information through programs called “XYZ’s!” The XYZ stands for Xtra Years Zest. The programs are free of charge and will be held at the McPherson County Extension Office Meeting Room at 600 W Woodside. Participants are asked to please RSVP at
620-241-1523 if interested in coming. The need for the RSVP is to help with supper,
refreshments as well as handouts. Also, the room will only hold a limited number of people.
The first program is set for Thursday, August 23, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at the McPherson Co
Extension Office meeting room and includes supper. An RSVP is required for this event. The
space is limited to 30 people.
The topic is Long Term Care Insurance. Conan McPherron, Long Term Care Regional
Director with Pacific Life Insurance Company will be the professional providing basic education
on long term care insurance. This will not be a sales event; educational only.
Long-term-care insurance can help pay for the assistance you might need if you become
ill or disabled in the future. But recent trends in the industry might be cause for concern for both
current policyholders and potential ones. A common question is whether to buy long-term care
insurance. With the average cost of a private room in care facilities topping $94,000 a year,
according to a 2013 study by insurer John Hancock, it’s a reasonable concern. Many of us will
need some form of long-term care, so the question of whether to buy insurance to help with the
associated costs is a real one. We insure for what we can’t afford to lose.
Conan will address this issue for us! If interested, please contact us at the McPherson
County Extension Office at 620-241-1523, the class is limited to 30 and supper is provided.
There is no charge for this program.
The September program topic is Social Security Basics. Becky Ewy, Social Security
Director will be the professional providing basic information for us. Many of you are asking
qustion about when to take your social security benefit? What should I be thinking about? Can I
take benefits from my spouse’s benefit and let my own continue to grow? All great questions!
The September XYZ program will be on September 20 at 2 p.m. at the McPherson
County Extension Office. RSVP is requested to make sure we have enough room for all
participants and copies of the handouts. You can call 620-241-1523 or email
to get registered.
All programs are provided free of charge and will be educational in nature. The October
XYZ program will focus on Medicare Basics. We will be discussing the Part D Open Season as
well as looking at the different parts and plan options of Medicare.
If you have suggestions for future topics, please feel free to suggest those to Jana
McKinney at 620-241-1523. Or email,
