For the second year in a row, the McPherson City Commission has approved a request from McPherson Industrial Development Corp. (MIDC) Exec. Director Kasi Morales for additional funds for employee and business recruitment marketing campaigns. The commission approved an annual stipend of $51,000 for MIDC at its Dec. 26, 2017 meeting. An additional $45 in funds was approved Tuesday at the Jan. 2 meeting. The total budget for the marketing campaign is $156,000. The city’s total contribution to the budget will be $96,000 with the Board of Public Utilities pitching in $35,000 and McPherson County $25,000.

The additional $45,000 from the city will be divided from the city’s general fund – $25,000 – and an industrial fund maintained by the city that has been used in the past to purchase land for industrial development. The current balance of the industrial fund is $380,000, according to City Administrator Nick Gregory. Local industries do not currently provide financial support for MIDC or the employee recruitment effort branded as GoMcPherson.
