The top-seeded McPherson Bullpups shot to an early lead but saw it fade to just four points by half time. The Pups seemed a bit off as they ran into foul trouble in the third quarter as the Ark City Bulldogs tied up the game twice 29-29 and 31-31. McPherson was able to pull ahead by eight as they went into the 4th quarter after 3-pointers from Jayse and Mason Alexander. The Bulldogs never got closer than six points after that as the Bullpups scored 11 from the foul line in the final quarter.

Junior Jake Alexander lead all scorers with 23 followed by Senior Ben Pyle with 17. Ark City’s Cevin Clark was held to just 15 points.

The Bullpups now face last year’s state champs Bishop Miege.

Coach Kurt Kinnamon summed it up saying “It’s been our goal to be back there (playing Miege). I doubt they are any more prepared than we are. We’ve been working on it since the last game we played at their place. … There are 30 other teams that reached the post-season that would like to be where we are now.”

Bishop Miege, the No. 2 seed, defeated Andover Central 58-47 earlier in the day. Ezekiel Lopez had 19 points for the Stags including three 3-pointers.
